Training and testing materials for this 1 day rigging and signaling workshop will assist employers in complying with the training requirements for workers around craning, "qualified riggers", and "qualified signal persons", as per the Federal OSHA crane law 29CFR1926.1400 CC. Topics covered include:

  • Core curriculum (workers, riggers, signal persons):
    • Worker hazards of working around craning
    • Mandatory powerline clearances and rules
    • Basic craning dynamics
    • Use of tag lines
    • Calculating load weight and COG
  • Rigging curriculum (selection, inspection, and use):
    • Rigging hooks, shackles, eye bolts, swivel rings, and turn buckles
    • Slings (wire rope, chain, web, round, and rope)
    • Horizontal angle loading and hitches
    • Lifting beams/bars, chain falls and lever hoists
  • Signaling/Spotting curriculum:
    • Communication requirements, positioning
    • Spotting for hazard clearances
    • Methods, meanings, and hazards created by signals
    • Hand signaling, voice signaling, audible signaling
    • Covers Mobile, Tower and Overhead crane signals
